Final Fitting
17 June 2006.
As you can see, prefitting everything didn’t work out all that well. I
had to refit several connections, due to my inability to line up the
trencher as well as I should have. It all worked out, but took longer
than expected.
Here, I had to use a shovel to widen the trench to accommodate a little different angle than I had planned for.

Next, I continued with the run to the wash house to the left. Nothing too difficult at this point.

Again, I had to widen the trench in a few places to account for
different angles. I was digging there anyway, due to a root that was in
the way.

At this point, about 15 feet from the wash house, I needed to start
getting ready to go back to town. This was late Sunday afternoon, and I
needed to go to work the next morning.
So I brought up a pipe out of the ground, so that I could tell where I left off when I return.

The ditch between here and the wash house is not deep enough to lay pipe
in. Even here, it was getting a little shallow, due to rock. I may need
to cover this with some extra soil to bring the depth to where it needs
to be.
It may be impractical to continue the line from here to the wash house,
and we might end up with a hose from here. I’ll know more on our next
trip, when I try to dig it with a pick and shovel.

As you can see here, this is some pretty tough digging. Combined with
the lack of maneuverability of the trencher, this was a good place to
stop.
We may end up needing a backhoe to continue this, but I’m not sure it’s worth it at this point.
We don’t plan on using the washouse in the winter, and we could wait for
the real contractors to put in the line to the big house down the road.
We’ll see…
