September 2014 Finishing Cleanup

by on Sep.25, 2014, under Ranch Maintenance

After Labor Day, I came up to the ranch again in the weekend of the 13th.  I wanted to finish cleaning up the back yard

It was a beautiful weekend, with warm, breezy days and cool nights.  I love this time of year.

The cleanup of the backyard is finally complete (it took 3 trips!)

As you can see, there was still quite a bit of mess left to clean up.

In the past couple of months, as we were burning debris, before leaving we would soak the charcoal with water, then dump it in a pile in this area.  This was the safest spot we could think of, as it was bare dirt or rocks, in case the charcoal reignited.

We ran into another critter while cleaning up.  This was a centipede, about 5 inches long or so…

Also, there was a weird stick bug inside the window one night in the cabin…

Finally, we got it all cleaned up.

On the way up, I stopped at Lowes to get some tree bark mulch.  I used some of it to bring up the level of the insulating material around the outlet valve on our water tank, then spread the rest around the old debris site to help cover up the gypsum that had chipped off of the drywall that was sitting there.  It was just too numerous and tiny to pick up all the pieces, so we’ll let the rain dissolve it over time.
